INSTALLATION

The CuteFTP 9 installer makes an upgrade intuitive. As long as you are upgrading 
from CuteFTP 8.3.3 or later, then the regular installer will automatically
upgrade the existing installation settings.

If you upgrade from any other version (CuteFTP 7 or older CuteFTP 8) then 
CuteFTP 9 installs as a new application. This means that if you do not want 
your old CuteFTP installation, you will need to uninstall it. The "upgrade" will 
not uninstall it.

Before upgrading, as a precaution, you should backup (save a copy of) the old 
application files and settings files, just in case you want to go back to the
previous version.

ACTIVATION AND REGISTRATION

Until you activate the product, when you close the interface, an Internet browser
window will open to a purchase page. After the trial period expires, CuteFTP must 
be activated to continue using it. To activate, open CuteFTP, then click 
Enter Serial Number (if CuteFTP is already open, click Help > Enter a Serial 
Number), then follow the prompts in the wizard.) If you do not have a serial 
number, click Buy Now.

Activation (registration) serial numbers are validated over the Internet by the 
Globalscape registration and activation server (dbregistration.globalscape.com 
via port 80). After a registration serial number is validated locally, the 
software assigns a unique number to your computer based on system information. 
That number and your registration information are then transmitted to our registration 
and activation server for processing, and a registry key is automatically merged 
into your Windows registry. 
	 
If Internet access is not available, the automated process will fail, and you will 
be presented with three options, which are detailed below. If necessary, first click 
"Configure HTTP Proxy" and configure the proxy connection settings.

	OPTION 1. Retry online registration - Automated Internet registration and 
activation will be attempted once more. Make sure you have a connection to the 
Internet already established. Port 80 must be open to inbound and outbound traffic.
	
	OPTION 2. Launch the Web registration form - Select this option only if the 
first option fails. Follow the prompts to register and activate via a form on our
Web site. If you need to access the online Web registration and activation form from 
a different computer, browse to http://www.globalscape.com/register/. Follow 
the instructions on the Web page until you are presented with a registry key file 
(.REG file) then refer to the registry key file instructions below.
	
	OPTION 3. E-mail a registration request to our support staff - 
You should only choose this option if the two options above fail. To continue, 
click Next, then click OK. The required details will be copied to the Clipboard. 
The Registration Wizard will attempt to start your default email client and open 
a new email message with the required details already in the body of the message. 
If unsuccessful, open a new email message and address it to: manreg@globalscape.com. 
For the Subject line, type "Registration Request" and then paste the contents of 
the Clipboard into the body of the email and send it. It is important that you do 
not modify the subject line or body text of the message in any way. (Note: Regular 
or non-conforming email sent to manreg@globalscape.com will not be delivered.) 
The Customer Service team will respond with the necessary registry key file as 
soon as possible, usually within one business day.     

	NOTE: For options 2 and 3, Save the registry key file to a convenient location.
